Gambling
Need support or information on Gambling and it’s harms.
Gambling is often a hidden issue that can leave people feeling worried and isolated. The harms caused by gambling impact the individual, their family and communities. Anyone exposed to gambling products is at risk of experiencing these harms, including the impact from relationship and family breakdowns, losing a job, a home and in some cases suicide. Individuals and families are in need of support and there is growing evidence suggesting that our young people are also gambling at harmful levels, along with links between young people, gaming and addictive behaviours.
Harmful gambling has a broad impact, and it is estimated that between 10,500 to 17,600 Leicestershire residents are affected by someone else’s gambling. It is also estimated that over 9,500 children live in the same household as an adult who might benefit from gambling treatment and support.
If you are worried about how often or how long you or someone you care about is gambling, help is available.
Organisations detailed below offer information, treatment and support, and the NHS website https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/addiction-support/gambling-addiction/ provides further information on how you can help yourself to stay in control of your gambling and signposting for those who are affected by someone else’s gambling.
Gambling businesses must not accept credit card payments and many banks now offer an option to block gambling transactions.
