Equipment and minor adaptations

You can get minor adaptations like grab rails, stair rails, small ramps or equipment to help with your daily living, such as:

• kettle tippers
• bath seats
• raised toilet seats
• specialist beds and chairs
• medication prompts - you can get specialist equipment to help with dementia

You may not be charged for some adaptations or equipment that costs less than £1000.

Major adaptations

You can get major adaptation such as widened doors, stair lifts or level access showers to your home if you have a physical disability.

What help can you get

It is important that we understand your situation before we agree to a major adaptation to your home.

• Get an assessment by contacting Adult Social Care by telephone on 0116 305 0004 or email adultsandcommunitiescsc@leics.gov.uk
• Get help at home gives more information on who can get help and the type of help you can get.
• Pay for help at home gives you information on who pays for the help you can receive.
• You could apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant to help pay for your adaptations if they cost over £1000.

If you live in a council or housing association home you will need to contact your local council or landlord to arrange any adaptations.
